THE ROLE & OPPORTUNITY

Our client is seeking an onsite Vice President of Human Resources with deep experience in healthcare or related industries, reporting directly to the CFO. The successful candidate will be a strategic and collaborative leader focused on achieving both company business objectives and overall HR process and policy at all location sites and in all states where employees are employed. Given the complexities of workforce management in healthcare— including regulatory compliance, multi-state employment laws, and talent retention—this role requires a seasoned HR professional who understands the unique challenges of the healthcare sector. This role is ideal for an experienced HR leader with a proven track record in M&A integration, multi-state HR strategy, and deep expertise in California employment law.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Overseeing HR responsibility across multiple offices/states, the role will serve as a strategic partner and act as the interface between HR and business leaders through the design and implementation of a cohesive HR strategy, which is aligned with the company’s growth strategy.
  • Develop and combine company HR policies and procedures across current acquisitions and future acquisitions, harmonizing company policies, benefits, training and compensation structures while preserving cultural strengths. Develop scalable HR frameworks that support rapid growth and align with business objectives.
  • Act as player/coach to the business leaders across the organization focusing on driving the attraction, retention, and engagement of talent across all levels across the organization.
  • Manage L&D strategy and implementation, performance management and the compensation philosophy that align with the company culture.
  • Manage the talent acquisition process to ensure the right people are hired at the right time.
  • Serve as the primary resource for employment law compliance and benefits administration, proactively mitigating risks in highly regulated states like California.
  • Drive best practices, change management initiatives, and continuously strive to improve processes to ensure alignment with business objectives, strategies, and internal/external trends.
  • Develop and unify HR policies and procedures across existing and acquired entities while ensuring strict compliance with federal, multi-state, and local employment laws, with a particular focus on complex California labor laws.
  • Partner with Compliance Department to ensure HR policies and practices align with healthcare industry regulations as well as accreditation entities (NCQA, URAC, CMS, etc.), including HIPAA, credentialing, background checks, and labor laws specific to healthcare professionals and clinical staff.

Key Priorities:

  • Assessment of current HR Foundation
  • Assessment of HR organization to identify gaps and build accountability
  • Compliance review due to M&A and remote workers (including California)
  • Focus on data integrity, process automation, technology optimization, and onboarding/offboarding process alignment
  • Implementation, development, and review of HR Polices and Procedure company wide
  • Align corporate and HR culture and objectives.

PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree in business, communications, human resources, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 10 years of senior executive level leadership experience, with strong execution and enthusiasm for growth.
  • At least 5 years of managerial experience.
  • Ability to provide direct leadership within the Human Resources organization.
  • Proven People/Talent/HR-related experience within a service-based company in the healthcare, managed care and hospital area.
  • Regional HR leadership experience and expertise.
  • Strong change management experience and skills.
  • Ability to provide influence and points of view in the HR space.
  • Deep understanding and familiarity of CA compliance and law.
  • Experience within a startup organization is helpful.
  • Ability to lead in a complex organization.
  • Mergers and Acquisitions exposure.
  • First-class written and verbal communication skills as well as an advanced ability to influence company culture creatively, proactively, and persuasively.
  • Must be someone who leads by example and sets the bar high, someone who is firsthand, led by example, can do the work as well as coach and manage others.
  • Critical thinker who utilizes creativity, strong people skills and attention to detail to develop and execute effective internal and external communication program.
  • Demonstrate strong business acumen. Ability to understand and operationalize complex business needs and objectives.
